What Driving Pal uses to operate its account, lesson, mapping, and assistant features.

Last updated: September 23, 2026

AI response reports

If you choose to report a response in the app, Driving Pal stores your reviewed response text, reason, optional comment (up to 500 characters), report identifier, account UID, app version, language and submission time in Firebase to investigate problematic responses. Reports are not sent to OpenAI. The preceding question, other conversation history, audio, GPS routes and names from lesson records are not automatically attached. Remove names, secrets and other personal information from the reported text. Reports are available only to authorized administrators, not other users, and are removed with account data by the in-app account deletion flow.

Overview

Driving Pal is a tool for driving instruction. This policy describes the information processed when you use the Android app and its connected services. Some features require an account, an internet connection, or device permissions.

Account and profile data

We use Firebase Authentication to register and sign in users. Account information can include your email address, Firebase user identifier (UID), display name if provided, and email-verification status. The app also keeps an account record needed to provide the service.

License and device information

To manage trials, access, and device binding, Driving Pal processes account status, plan, expiry, a device identifier, device name, platform and Android/operating-system information, app version, and relevant registration, check-in, and usage timestamps. License and device-binding decisions are validated by the backend.

Usage and diagnostic data

The app may write usage-session logs, application events, and diagnostic/error logs associated with your account where applicable. These help operate and diagnose the service. This information can include event names, session timing, device/app context, and error details.

Location, maps, and routes

With the relevant device permission, Driving Pal uses precise or approximate location for route recording, route generation, and map-related features. Recorded route information is primarily stored locally on your device.

When you request route generation, the coordinates required for that request pass through the authenticated Driving Pal Firebase backend to Google's routing service. Google Maps and routing services may process location information needed to display maps and produce routes. GPS coordinates are not sent to OpenAI as part of the Driving Assistant request.

After you explicitly start a route-recording session, recording can continue while the screen is off. Android shows a foreground-service notification while this is happening. Driving Pal does not secretly start route recording.

Microphone and speech recognition

Dictation is optional and starts only when you choose to use the microphone feature. Android's speech-recognition service processes speech and returns recognized text for the assistant composer. Driving Pal does not intentionally store raw microphone audio or send raw audio to Firebase or OpenAI. Recognized text is not sent to the AI backend until you submit it.

Driving Assistant

Text you submit to the Driving Assistant goes through an authenticated Firebase Function. The backend sends the text needed to generate a response to OpenAI. We do not describe the assistant as a permanent conversation-history service. AI output may be incorrect or incomplete and does not replace traffic law, official information, a driving instructor, or professional judgment.

Service providers

Driving Pal uses Google Firebase services, including Firebase Authentication, Cloud Firestore, and Firebase Functions; Google Maps and Google routing services; Android speech-recognition services; and OpenAI for assistant responses. These providers process information needed for their roles. Their applicable privacy policies and terms also govern their processing. This website itself has no analytics, advertising, or tracking scripts.

Security

Application backend communications use HTTPS. Firebase Functions require authenticated requests for account and protected features, entitlement checks take place on the server, and backend access is restricted. No online service can guarantee absolute security.

Retention and deletion

Information is kept as needed to provide the service, operate accounts and licenses, investigate diagnostics, and meet applicable legal or security needs. We do not state a fixed retention period for every category.

You can request account deletion inside Driving Pal or through the Account & Data Deletion page. The in-app deletion service removes the Firebase Authentication account, the server account record at users/{uid}, and associated usage logs, events, and error logs. Routes and other lesson information stored locally on your device are not necessarily available to the server; use the app's deletion flow, clear the app's storage, or uninstall it as applicable. Limited information may need to be retained where required for legal, security, fraud-prevention, or legitimate compliance purposes.

Children

Driving Pal is intended as a tool for driving instruction. It is not intentionally designed to collect personal information from children independently of account or service use.
